Terms and Conditions
- Instructions on how to enter the My RØDE Reel 2021 competition (“the Competition”) and details regarding the Competition contained herein form part of these Terms and Conditions. Entry into and participation in this Competition is deemed acceptance of these Terms and Conditions. This Competition is not valid in conjunction with any other offer, competition or promotion by RØDE.
- The Competition is free to enter and open to any person, subject to paragraph 3 below, except employees of RØDE and residents of North Korea, Iran, Iraq, Syria, Yemen, Sudan, United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia. The Competition will be void in any other jurisdiction where it is prohibited.
- Minors are entitled to enter the Competition, provided they have the consent of a parent or guardian to enter and participate in the Competition, and provide that parent or guardian’s details upon entry to the Competition for verification by RØDE. Entrants shall be considered as Minors for the purpose of the Competition if they are over the age of 13 years old and under the age of 20 years old if they are from Japan, Taiwan, Thailand or South Korea, and otherwise over the age of 13 years old and under the age of 18 years old.
- The Competition commences at 12.00 midday AEST on 11 August 2021 (“the Commencement Date”) and closes at 10:00am AEDT on 20 October 2021(the “Closing Date”). The period between the Commencement Date and the Closing Date shall be the Competition entry period (the “Competition Entry Period”).
- To participate in the Competition, an Entrant must write, create, record and edit in a digital video format the following original films:
- A Short Film, a maximum of 3 minutes in duration, in one of the categories listed in paragraph 19, with original content of the Entrant’s choosing (the “Short Film”); and
- A Video, a maximum of 3 minutes in duration, of the “Behind The Scenes” making of the Short Film that must show a RØDE product being used in the production of the Short Film (the “BTS Film”). The BTS Film must feature original footage of an actual (not photo or image) RØDE product and its use in the production of the Short Film. RØDE in its sole discretion shall decide on what constitutes a “Behind The Scenes” film of the making of the Short Film, and any such decision of RØDE shall be final.
- The Short Film and the BTS Film must not have been entered previously in any past “My RØDE Reel” competitions, and the Entrant must own the whole of the copyright in the Short Film and the BTS Film. In circumstances where the Short Film and BTS Film or parts thereof are derived from or contain images, sounds or material from an existing work, the Entrant must have obtained written copyright clearance from the owner of that existing work for the use of that existing work, which must be produced to RØDE on demand. In circumstances where the Short Film and BTS Film or parts thereof contain images of persons, locations, marks, trademarks and any other images which would require permission for their use, the Entrants must have received appropriate written releases for their use which must be produced to RØDE on demand. The Entrant shall indemnify RØDE in respect of any and all liability arising from any infringement of any rights whatsoever that may arise in respect of the Short Film and/or the BTS Film, and RØDE reserves the right to disqualify any Entrant who does not comply with the conditions set out in this clause.
- The Short Film and BTS Film must not defame any person or entity, be disparaging to any religion, race, or nation, contain language that is lewd, obscene or inappropriate, graphic nudity or explicit acts of violence, or use any copyrights, images, marks, trademarks or logos for which the Entrant has not obtained permission for their use. RØDE reserves the right to disqualify any Entrant who does not comply with the conditions set out in this clause.
- The Short Film and the BTS Film must use the “My RØDE Reel” title card, which will be provided by RØDE as a download from the My RØDE Reel website, as the first shot, for a minimum of three (3) seconds.
- The Entrant shall be the one individual person most responsible for the creation, filming, producing and editing of the Short Film and the BTS Film.
- To enter the Competition, after the Commencement Date and prior to the Closing Date, the Entrant must first register their interest in the Competition by accessing the website www.myrodereel.com and logging in or signing up for an account. From there, the Entrant can access the Competition Starter Pack, which contains entry instructions and the title card.
- The Entrant shall then proceed to create the Short Film and BTS Film. Once the Short Film and the BTS Film have been completed and prior to the Closing Date, the Entrant shall:
- For all Entrants other than Entrants who reside in China, visit the YouTube website, upload the Short Film and the BTS Film to YouTube adding ‘My RØDE Reel’ to the Short Film name and the BTS Film name, and follow YouTube’s required steps to submit the Short Film and the BTS Film. Entrants must comply with any applicable rules of YouTube for this purpose;
- For all Entrants who reside in China, visit the YouKu, Tencent Video or Bilibili website, upload the Short Film and the BTS Film to YouKu, Tencent Video or Bilibili adding ‘My RØDE Reel’ to the Short Film name and the BTS Film name, and follow YouKu, Tencent Video or Bilibili’s required steps to submit the Short Film and the BTS Film. Entrants must comply with any applicable rules of YouKu, Tencent Video or Bilibili for this purpose;
- Thereafter and prior to the Closing Date, the Entrant must access the Competition Entry Page at the website www.myrodereel.com, and complete the Competition Entry Form by entering the details required therein in full, including but not limited to the full name of the Entrant, the gender of the Entrant, the address of the Entrant and other contact details required, the YouTube, YouKu, Tencent Video or Bilibili links to the Short Film and the BTS Film, the genre of the Short Film and any other information requested therein;
- The Entrant shall then receive an email confirming receipt of their entry by RØDE, and stating that the acceptance of their entry by RØDE is subject to moderation of their entry by RØDE in its sole discretion;
- RØDE shall aim to moderate each entry within forty-eight (48) hours of receipt, but moderation may take longer due to the volume of entries from time to time;
- If the entry is accepted by RØDE following moderation, the Entrant shall receive a confirmation email of the acceptance of their entry, and RØDE shall provide the Entrant with a link to share their entry on the www.myrodereel.com website for voting purposes; and
- If the entry is not accepted by RØDE following moderation, the Entrant shall receive an email from RØDE to the effect that it has not been accepted, the reasons for this, and details for the re-submission of their entry once any defects in their entry have been rectified to the satisfaction of RØDE.
- To enter the TikTok Competition, after the TikTok Competition Commencement Date (16th August 2021) and prior to the Closing Date (approximately 4 weeks, but subject to change), the Entrant must make a TikTok and Upload it to the TikTok platform with the hashtags #UnboxYourIdeas, #MyRODEReel, and #competition and also follow @rodemic
- Entrants must complete all of the steps itemised in paragraphs 9 and 10 or paragraph 11 to the satisfaction of RØDE in its sole discretion, within the Competition Entry Period. RØDE will only accept entries made outside the Entry Period at its discretion.
- By entering the Competition, Entrants acknowledge, agree and declare that they are aware that their participation is entirely at their own risk and that they hereby waive, surrender and relinquish in favour of RØDE all claims of any nature and howsoever arising (including as a result of negligence) which but for this waiver, surrender and relinquishment they may or otherwise have against RØDE either directly or indirectly arising out of their participation in the Competition.
- By entering the Competition, Entrants hereby warrant that all information submitted is true, current and complete. Any Entrants who have supplied incomplete, inaccurate or fraudulent information may be automatically disqualified. RØDE reserves the right to disqualify any Entrant if RØDE has reasonable grounds to believe that an Entrant has breached any of these terms and conditions or has tampered with the Competition process. Failure by RØDE to enforce any of its rights at any stage of the Competition does not constitute a waiver of those rights.
- Incomplete, indecipherable or illegible entries will be deemed invalid. Entrants bear all responsibility to ensure that their entry is complete and legible, and that their Short Film and BTS Film is submitted in the correct format and clearly visible and audible.
- Entrants are entitled to submit an unlimited number or entries, provided that each entry must comply with the entry provisions set out in paragraphs 10 to 15 inclusive.
- The costs of entering the Competition shall be borne solely by the Entrant.
- The Entrant grants to RØDE, and the sponsor of the respective category, a nonexclusive, irrevocable license to RØDE to publish their Short Film and BTS Film in full on the RØDE website and communicate their Short Film and BTS Film to the public in the territory of the world, and in full or in part in any other promotional material of RØDE.
- Following the Closing Date, the entries to the Competition shall be judged in the following distinct categories:

- Drama
- Comedy
- Documentary
- Animation
- Behind-The-Scenes
Special:
- Judges’ Choice
- People’s Choice
- Sound Design
- TikTok
- Best Chinese Film
- One Entrant will be chosen as the winner for each category itemised in paragraph 19 above. The same Entrant may be chosen as winner of two or more of the categories itemised in paragraph 19 above.
- The winner of the Judges’ Film Category shall be determined as follows:
- A judging panel shall be appointed by RØDE in its sole discretion;
- After the Closing Date, RØDE shall determine a shortlist of the best Short Films;
- The judging panel shall view the Short Films on the shortlist determined by RØDE;
- By the end of November 2021, the judging panel shall determine the winner of this category in the judging panel’s sole discretion;
- The judging shall be based only on the subjective personal opinions of the judging panel and shall be final;
- RØDE accepts no liability for the decisions made by the judging panel, and no correspondence will be entered into in this regard;
- RØDE shall aim to notify the winner of this category within twenty-four (24) hours of the determination of the winner by email to the winner; and
- The winner shall be entitled to receive the Judges’ Film Category Prize Pack.
- The winners of the People’s Choice Category shall be determined as follows:
- Any time after the Commencement Date and until 12.00 midday AEDT on 18 November 2021 (the “Voting End Time”), any person may vote for their favourite Short Film that has been entered into the Competition by accessing the internet and logging their vote at www.myrodereel.com via their Facebook, Google or Weibo account, or their email address. Each person may only vote for one Short Film entry. Only one vote per entry, per IP address will be accepted by RØDE, and RØDE reserves the right to cancel any vote in circumstances where there is in RØDE’s opinion any irregularity in the voting process;
- All voting will be completed by the end of the Voting End Time, and no votes submitted after the Voting End Time will be accepted by RØDE;
- The winner of this category shall be the entry with the most votes as at the Voting End Time;
- The first runner-up (2nd place) of this category shall be the entry with the second most votes as at the Voting End Time;
- The second runner-up (3rd place) of this category shall be the entry with the third most votes as at the Voting End Time;
- In circumstances where there are two or more entries that have tied as the most votes at the Voting End Time for each place, RØDE shall announce and extend the votes for 24 hours until 12.00 midday AEDT on 19 November 2021(the “Extended Voting End Time”) for the tied entries only, and the winner shall be the entry with the most number of votes at the Extended Voting End Time;
- In circumstances where there are two or more entries that have tied as the most votes at the Extended Voting End Time for each place, RØDE shall announce and extend the votes for successive 24 hour periods thereafter for the tied entries until the winner with the most number of individual votes can be determined (the “Further Extended Voting End Time”);
- No correspondence will be entered into regarding the Voting Process;
- RØDE shall aim to notify the winner, the first runner up (2nd place), and second runner up (3rd place) of this category within 7 days of the Voting End Time, the Extended Voting End Time, or the Further Extended Voting End Time by email to the winners; and
- The winners shall be entitled to receive the People’s Choice Category Prize Packs in accordance with their ranking (1st, 2nd or 3rd).
- The winner of the TikTok Category shall be determined as follows:
- After the Closing Date, representatives appointed by RØDE with appropriate qualifications shall view all of the Short Films submitted by Entrants, as defined in paragraph 11
- By the end of November, the appointed RØDE representatives shall determine the winner and the 10 runners up of this category in their sole discretion, and inform RØDE of their decision;
- The judging shall be based only on the subjective personal opinion of RØDE appointed representatives and shall be final;
- RØDE will not enter into any correspondence in regards to the judging process;
- RØDE shall aim to notify the winner and 10 runners up of this category via the TikTok platform within twenty-four (24) hours of the determination of the winners.
- The winners shall be entitled to receive the TikTok Category Prize Packs in accordance with their ranking.
- The winners of the Drama, Comedy, Documentary, Animation, BTS, Sound Design Categories shall be determined as follows:
- After the Closing Date, the appointed RØDE representatives shall view all of the Short Films submitted by the Entrants for each category;
- By the end of November 2021, the appointed RØDE representatives shall determine the winner, the first runner up (2nd place), and second runner up (3rd place) of each category in their sole discretion;
- The judging shall be based only on the subjective personal opinion of the appointed RØDE representatives and shall be final;
- RØDE will not enter into any correspondence in regards to the judging process;
- RØDE shall aim to notify the winner, the first runner up (2nd place), and second runner up (3rd place) of each category by email within twenty-four (24) hours of the determination of the winner, the first runner up (2nd place), and second runner up (3rd place) of each category; and
- The winners shall be entitled to receive the Prize Packs pertaining to their category in accordance with their ranking (1st, 2nd or 3rd).
- The winners of the China Category shall be determined by RØDE as follows:
- Short Films from China will be eligible if the IP address from which the Competition Entry Form is submitted is identified to be from China, the Short Film and BTS Film are filmed in China and that China is elected in the Competition Entry Form.
- After the Closing Date, representatives appointed by RØDE with appropriate qualifications shall view all of the Short Films entered by the Entrants from China;
- By the end of November 2021, the appointed representatives shall determine the winner, the first runner up (2nd place), and second runner up (3rd place) of this category in their sole discretion, and inform RØDE of their decision;
- The judging shall be based only on the subjective personal opinion of RØDE’s appointed representatives and shall be final;
- RØDE will not enter into any correspondence in regards to the judging process;
- RØDE shall aim to notify the winner, the first runner up (2nd place), and second runner up (3rd place) of this category by email within twenty-four (24) hours of the determination of the winner, the first runner up (2nd place), and second runner up (3rd place) ; and
- The winners shall be entitled to receive the China Category Prize Packs in accordance with their ranking (1st, 2nd or 3rd). 26.
- The Prizes for each category are listed under the Prizes page on www.myrodereel.com. The total value of the My RØDE Reel 2021 prize pool is approximately USD $520,000.
- RØDE reserves the right to award further Prizes or Prize Packs to winners, or to alter the content of any Prize Pack in whole or in part at any time, whether by adding or removing Prizes. Any changes in the Prizes or the content of the Prize Packs shall be notified by RØDE from time to time as the case may be.
- The Prize Packs on offer in the Competition, in full or in part, are non-transferable, non-negotiable, non-refundable, are not redeemable, and are subject to availability.
- All Prizes in each Prize Pack will be new and in their original packing with their applicable warranty. All electronic prizes will be in Australian specification by default, however RØDE will make reasonable efforts to provide prizes in the specification of the winners’ country.
- RØDE shall make reasonable efforts to deliver the Prize Packs to their respective winners at each winner’s address specified in the Competition Entry Form within twelve (12) weeks of end of November 2021. RØDE shall not be liable for any delays in delivery of the Prize Packs. All shipping costs for the Prize Packs to the winners’ address shall be paid by RØDE. Any duty of other import costs for the Prize Packs shall be paid by the winners. For the winner of the Young Filmmaker Category, or where the winner in any category is a Minor, the Prize Pack shall be delivered to the parent or guardian nominated by the Entrant.
- RØDE shall not be liable for any tax payable on the value of a Prize Pack in a winner’s country, and any tax payable shall be borne by each winner. Where required by law, RØDE shall inform the local taxation authorities of the Prizes received by the winners.
- Each winner agrees to participate in reasonable post-competition publicity for RØDE at RØDE’s expense, including but not limited to their attendance for interviews, photographs, videos and any other promotional activity specified by RØDE, and grant a nonexclusive, irrevocable license to RØDE to use their name, biographical details, photographs, videos, likenesses and any other information regarding the winner deemed appropriate for use by RØDE for any promotional and marketing purposes by RØDE for a period of five (5) year from the Closing Date.
- Each Entrant warrants that he or she has no other agreements or arrangements with any third parties relating to the performance, service, image, name or likeness and/or other rights that may interfere with his or her entry into the Competition and the execution of his or her obligations as the winner in this Competition.
- The terms and conditions of a related third-party supplier or suppliers of prizes may apply and shall be accepted by the winner or winners.
- If this Competition is interfered with in any way or is not capable of being conducted as reasonably anticipated due to any reason beyond the reasonable control of RØDE, RØDE reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to the fullest extent permitted by law (a) to disqualify any Entrant; or (b) to modify, suspend, terminate or cancel the Competition, as appropriate.
- Any cost associated with accessing the Competition website is the Entrant's responsibility and is dependent on the Internet service provider used. RØDE makes no guarantee of the availability of its web services and will not be held responsible for interruption of service that may interfere with the ability to participate in the Competition.
- Except for any liability that cannot be excluded by law, RØDE (including its officers, employees and agents) excludes all liability (including negligence), for any personal injury; or any loss or damage (including loss of opportunity); whether direct, indirect, special or consequential, arising in any way out of this Competition, including, but not limited to, where arising out of the following: (a) any technical difficulties or equipment malfunction (whether or not under RØDE's control); (b) any theft, unauthorised access or third party interference; (c) any entry that is late, lost, altered, damaged or misdirected (whether or not after their receipt by RØDE) due to any reason beyond the reasonable control of RØDE; (d) any variation in the type and specifications of the prizes to that stated in these Terms and Conditions; (e) any prize that has not been received by the claimant after dispatch by RØDE; (f) any prize that has been damaged in transit; (g) any tax liability incurred by an Entrant; or (h) use of the prizes.
- RØDE collects personal information of the Entrants in order to conduct the Competition and may, for this purpose, disclose such information to third parties, including but not limited to agents, contractors, service providers, prize suppliers and as required by law, to Australian or other regulatory authorities. Entry to the Competition is conditional on providing this personal information, and the Entrant must consent to the use of their personal information for the purposes of the Competition. RØDE may, for an indefinite period, and provided that the Entrant has not withdrawn their consent, use the information for promotional, marketing, publicity, research and/or profiling purposes, including sending electronic messages or telephoning the Entrant. The Entrant may opt out of any promotional, marketing, publicity, research and/or profiling conducted by RØDE using their personal information at any time by giving RØDE notice of their intention to opt out. RØDE shall maintain all personal information in accordance with its Privacy Policy set out at http://www.rode.com/privacypolicy. Entrants should direct any request to access, update or correct information to RØDE.
- These Terms and Conditions shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of New South Wales, Australia. Entrants agree to submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of the State of New South Wales, Australia. RØDE shall comply with any laws applicable in the location where the Competition is held.
- RØDE hereby reserves the right to change, suspend or cancel the Competition, or to change these terms and conditions, by notice on the RØDE website. RØDE shall not be required to specify any reasons for the changes and shall not incur any liability as a result.
